In 2019, Pioneer School, a returning client, contacted us about creating an accessible forest school in unused space. We were excited to join the planning and began phase one in summer 2020: an all-weather pathway and fire pit.

The goal was to build an accessible path leading to a safe fire pit for all users. Tree Stump Stools and seats line the stone circle surrounding the rustic fire pit dish, housed in a brick enclosure.

Later in 2020, we started phase two: an Outdoor Classroom. The goal was to provide an all-weather, accessible classroom for the forest school. Our 6m gazebo, with open sides, allowed easy movement and provided shelter from the sun and rain.

In summer 2021, we added a large, accessible pond to enhance learning. Designed to encourage wildlife and self-clean, it was also secure to prevent accidents. We worked closely with the school staff to find an affordable solution.

The pond was built with a solar-powered pump, rock filtration system, and a fully lined pond area. A trellis with double lockable gates secured the space, and water flowed over a slate centre, creating soothing sounds.
