In autumn 2021, we visited Langstone Junior Academy. Their well-loved Trim Trail needed replacing after over fifteen years. The old trail, showing rot, had provided mixed play value but was at the end of its life.

The school wanted a new Trim Trail with some pieces replaced “like for like” but hoped for greater challenges. The focus was on imagination and flow, allowing children to move smoothly between pieces. The goal was to enhance physical, imaginative, and communicative development.

The existing black wetpour surfacing was still in good condition, with colourful repair patches. The school wanted to replicate this in the new design.

We proposed ten new trim trail pieces, with a Bear Creek Climb Around Unit as the centrepiece. The individual pieces offered exciting challenges and encouraged easy play flow. The Bear Creek added climbing opportunities and imaginative play.

All equipment was installed on steel feet to prevent ground rot, extending the timber’s life. The project, including removal of old equipment, took just over two weeks.
