After successful past collaborations, this valued client returned to us in April 2021 for another project. The project was at Freeland Play Area and focused on replacing condemned equipment with something innovative. They also requested an expansion of the play area with new features, including a sunken trampoline and sand pit.
We started by visiting the site to assess the space and create a bespoke design tailored to the client’s needs. To replace the condemned equipment, we subsequently proposed a tractor-themed structure. This design drew inspiration from the rural setting and the picturesque views of the adjacent cricket field. Notably, this concept captured the imagination of both the client and the local community. It allowed children to role-play as the groundskeeper on his ride-on lawnmower, adding a fun and thematic touch to the play area.
To enhance the sensory and imaginative play experience for younger visitors, we designed a unique sand shack as part of the new sand pit. The shack featured a rustic roof clad in natural materials, a specific client request, to blend harmoniously with the surroundings. This thoughtful design encouraged physical play, creativity, and tactile exploration, ensuring the space appealed to a wide range of children.
The expansion also included the installation of a sunken trampoline. This added an element of dynamic, high-energy play that complemented the quieter, more sensory-focused areas. Every element of the design was carefully considered to create a balanced play experience that catered to children of varying ages and abilities.
The project at Freeland Play Area was completed on time and to the client’s satisfaction in November 2021. This rejuvenated play space has since become a beloved hub for the local community, combining imaginative themes, diverse play options, and a strong connection to its rural surroundings.
